Re—Imagining Newhaven

Client:
Lewes Council

In June 2020, during the Covid–19 Pandemic we were commissioned to design, copywrite and produce the executive summary for Newhaven’s multi million pound bid from the Government’s Future High Streets Fund to help transform Newhaven Town Centre and High Street, creating up to 200 jobs by 2024.

In order to secure the funding required for rejuvenation, Lewes Council needed a designed document to illustrate the strategic plan in an exciting and engaging way to enhance the public perception of the town.

The typography riffs on the industrial aesthetic of Newhaven. The layout is sparse and off–kilter, paired with cinematic full bleed photography (by Benedict Stenning) to create impact and drama.

Brighter, more energetic pages illustrate the ideas of rejuvenation, showcasing a microplan by Turner.Works.

The Impact

In Spring 2021, Government confirmed Newhaven would receive just over £5m to deliver a package of interventions to transform the underutilised and vacant commercial properties in the heart of the Town Centre.

Newhaven was one of less than 80 towns selected for this government funding from the Future High Streets Fund.
